Immigration New Zealand has announced a targeted update affecting some employer-sponsored work visa applicants. From midnight 12 July 2026, applicants using the Occupational English Test (OET) for immigration purposes must complete every part of the test in person at a supervised test centre. Online-at-home OET results will no longer be accepted for new applications after that date.

The change is most relevant to the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) pathway, which remains the main employer-linked temporary work visa in New Zealand. INZ says the move is intended to protect the fairness and integrity of the immigration system, while ensuring test results genuinely reflect the applicant’s own English ability.
